ITINERARY

Day 1 - Meeting at a bus station in Marrakesh. Board the bus heading towards Ouarzazate. Check in at the hotel. Rest of the day free. Overnight in Ouarzazate 

Day 2 - Morning tour in Ouarzazate. Afternoon tour to Ait Ben Haddou, a historic fortified village, or ksar. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is renowned for its traditional Moroccan earthen clay architecture. The ksar features a collection of kasbahs (fortresses) and houses, many adorned with intricate decorations. Ait Ben Haddou has been a filming location for numerous movies and TV shows, including "Gladiator" and "Game of Thrones," due to its well-preserved and picturesque landscape. The site exemplifies the rich cultural heritage and architectural ingenuity of the region. At night we will have our first drumming workshop. We will begin with a gift of a drum that you get to keep and customize, followed by an introductory  session covering basic rhythm patterns. Overnight in Ouarzazate.​​

Day 3 - We leave in the morning by bus towards Zagora, where we will have a chance to visit the souk (local market). In the afternoon we will go to Tamgroute, a village in southern Morocco's Draa Valley, renowned for its green pottery and historic 17th-century Islamic library. It also houses the Nasseriyya Zawiya, a significant Sufi religious and educational institution. We will visit the library and the pottery making. Overnight in Tamgroute.

Day 4 - We leave in the morning to Mhamid. In the afternoon we will have a drumming workshop with a local drummer teacher at the Joudour Sahara Music School, where we will get to play with local musicians. After the session, head to the desert to spend the night in a desert camp, where we are treated to a night of music with local musicians, and where we can join with our drums. Overnight at the desert camp.

Day 5 - Morning hike in the Sahara dunes. Workshop at the school. In the afternoon, head to the Zamane Festival for the inauguration ceremony. Please check here for the festival´s program.

​Overnight in Mhamid.

Day 6 - The day is spent at the Zamane Festival. During the festival we will have the opportunity to jam along with local musicians.

Day 7 - The day is spent at the Zamane Festival. 

 

Day 8 - Early in the morning we take the bus back to Marrakesh.

Price: 1745€/Pax in shared double room  (flights not included)

Single room supplement : 450€ (subject to availability)

FACILITATORS

Bernardo Ho

Singer and guitar player of the Backbeat Mojo a blues band will be providing a layer on top of the drumming to provide extra groove, and bridging with local musicians .

Matilde Ho

Surfer, Drummer and percussionist of Backbeat Mojo and Flor Girino, she will be responsible for leading the drumming workshops throughout the trip and facilitating the interaction with the local musicians.
